Description
Betta smaragdina, commonly known as the Emerald Betta, is a stunning wild-type species hailing from the rice paddies, slow-moving streams, and floodplains of Southeast Asia – mainly Thailand and Laos. Unlike the flamboyant domestic Betta splendens, B. smaragdina juveniles display a more natural, iridescent charm. Their bodies shimmer with emerald green or turquoise hues, especially under soft lighting. As juveniles, their colors are more subdued, but with proper care and time, they will mature into vibrant, territorial showpieces.
